Carpentry Jobs That Need a Real Carpenter
Most of our work is custom cabinetry and furniture, but we also take general carpentry jobs when they fit our shop. These are the projects that do not neatly belong to a kitchen or a closet: a built-in bench with drawers in an empty corner, a platform or base framed to level a floor, a custom shelf, a cabinet for an odd space.
The corner bench in the photo shows how this works. The room had an awkward corner with a window, and we built an L-shaped seat with drawers beneath, finished in a soft light tone, so the corner became useful storage and seating instead of dead space.
The framing video on this page shows another side of the work: a raised floor platform being built from lumber before the finish surface goes on. General carpentry is often the unseen structure that makes later finishes sit right.

Signs You Need General Carpentry
- You have a corner, nook or odd gap that needs a built-in instead of a store-bought piece.
- A floor, platform or wall needs framing or leveling before the finish goes on.
- You have a one-off project such as a bench, shelf or cabinet that is hard to find ready-made.
- You are renovating and need a carpenter who can build custom pieces as part of the work.
- Another trade has left an opening or condition that requires custom wood framing to resolve.
How We Approach Carpentry Jobs
- Describe the job
Tell us what you need and send photos. We tell you honestly whether it fits our shop.
- Measure and propose
We measure the space and propose a solution, including materials and how it will be finished.
- Build to fit
We build in the shop when possible so the work is controlled, and on site when the job requires it.
- Install and finish
We install, adjust and finish so the new carpentry blends with what is already there.

What Drives the Cost of Carpentry Work
General carpentry is quoted by the job because no two are the same. These are the main factors.
A simple shelf and a built-in bench with drawers differ a great deal in labor and materials.
Lumber, panels, hardware and finishes all vary in cost.
Work built in the shop is usually more efficient than work that has to be built on site.
Tight access, uneven walls and floors and work around other trades add time.
Raw framing, painted trim and furniture-grade finishes have different labor needs.
Fitting a job around contractor schedules can influence planning.
Why Choose a Custom Shop for Carpentry
General carpentry done by a custom shop tends to look better because the same people who build furniture-grade cabinets build the framing and built-ins. Details like reveals, straight lines and tight joints are part of how we work.
We focus on custom work, so we are upfront when a job is outside our shop. If general carpentry is what you need, send us the details and we will tell you what we can do.
Where We Build This
We take carpentry jobs in Homestead and Florida City, and travel to Kendall, Cutler Bay and Miami for projects that suit our shop.
Questions About General Carpentry
What kind of general carpentry do you take?
Built-ins, benches, custom shelving and framing jobs that tie into custom cabinetry or furniture work. Send us details and photos and we will tell you if it is a good fit for our shop.
Do you do trim, baseboards and doors?
Our focus is custom work. If you need trim or door work as part of a larger custom project, ask when you request your quote and we will confirm what we can include.
Can you build something I cannot find ready-made?
That is the core of our work. A custom bench, a cabinet for an odd corner or a shelf for a specific wall are exactly the kind of projects we like.
Do you work on site or in your shop?
Both. We build pieces in our Homestead shop where we can control the work, and we do framing and fitting on site when needed.
Can you work with my general contractor?
Yes. Contractors and designers send us a lot of work. We can coordinate schedules, confirm dimensions and fit around other trades.
How do I start a carpentry project with you?
Request a free quote with a description and photos of the space. We will follow up to talk through the details and next steps.
